How the Math Works
Calorie density is simply energy divided by volume. For a serving in fluid ounces, the formula is:
kcal per fl oz = total calories in the drink ÷ serving size in fl oz
To express the same density per 100 mL, multiply by 100 / 29.5735 = 3.3814, because one US fluid ounce holds 29.5735 mL. So a drink with 12.5 kcal per fl oz has about 42.3 kcal per 100 mL. Some nutrition labels round 1 fl oz to 30 mL for simplicity; that will shift results by about 1.4%.
